Born: Troon, Ayrshire: 10-06-1913

Joined Hearts from Parkhead Juniors in May 1933 and made his debut at Left Back in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in a Friendly on 25th November 1935. His first team debut in the Scottish League, again at Left Back, came in the first game of the 1936-37 season in a 3-4 home defeat by Motherwell on 15th August 1936. His first and only senior goal came in the home game with Hibernian on 9th September 1937 in a 3-2 win. He had played forty-four Scottish League and one Scottish Cup game for Hearts before the Outbreak of World War Two. He continued to play for Hearts throughout the War years and was capped by Scotland at Left Back against England in a 1-1 draw on 11th May 1940 at Hampden Park in front of a 75,000 crowd. He also guested for Leeds United in three games in the 1941-42 Football League Northern Section (Second Championship). He made his debut at Right Back in the home game with Blackburn Rovers on 28th February 1942 when United went down 0-1. He was at Right Back in a 3-2 win over Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park in the last but two game of that campaign and his final appearance came in the last game of that campaign at Centre Half as Middlesbrough gained revenge with a 1-2 win at Elland Road. He returned to Heart of Midlothian after the War and played his final game at Dens Park against Dundee at Left Back in a 1-2 defeat on 6th October 1947 and brought his Scottish League appearances to sixty-one together with three games in the Scottish Cup and three more in the Scottish League Cup. He retired in May 1948 and became the Coach of Hearts a position he held until retiring in May 1956. He died at Grangemouth, Stirlingshire in May 1991.
