A black belt at judo, he was a product of Carmarthenshire League football and he joined Llanelli at the start of 1951-52. He soon attracted the attention of Leeds, who signed him in May 1952. He looked promising in the Reserves, but could not bridge the gap to Football League. In June 1956, after National Service he moved to Newport County on the recommendation of former Leeds and Newport player, Harry Duggan, but did not appear in Newport’s senior side.
