Programme

Leeds fielded a very strong side and finished comfortable 4-0 winners. Alan Maybury celebrated his twenty-third birthday by opening the scoring in the twenty-fourth minute. Alan Fettis made an excellent save at full stretch from a Stephen McPhail free-kick and the half-time score of 1-0 flattered the home team. York made wholesale changes at half-time and their substitute goalkeeper Russell Howarth denied Alan Maybury a second with a fine save. But it was just a matter of time and Robbie Keane set up Jacob Burns for an angled drive for the second seven minutes into the new half. Keane then showed his class when he took on the York defence and left them mesmirized with a superb solo goal to make it 3-0 in the sixty-fourth minute. He went on to complete the scoring five minutes later after Jacob Burns had repaid the compliment by setting him up to score with a clinical finish. United had replaced Simon Johnson with Caleb Folan on the hour, Jason Wilcox with Harpal Singh five minutes later, Frazer Richardson was on for Shane Cansdell-Sherriff in the seventy-third minute and Jamie McMaster replaced Jacob Burns four minutes later. Shaun Allaway remained unused on the bench. The York City substitutions were: Russell Howarth for Alan Fettis, Stuart Wise for Matt Hocking, Vasey for Mike Basham, Boyce for Gary Hobson, Neville Stamp for Darren Edmondson, Richard Cooper for Graham Potter, Lee Wood for Lee Bullock, Aidan O'Kane for Chris Brass, Mark Salvati for Nick Richardson, Peter Duffield for Lee Nogan and Scott Emmerson for Michael Proctor.
