He started in the Under-Tens and then progressed through Chelsea's academy and reserve teams. He scored once in nineteen appearances for the Chelsea youth team in the 2010-11 season while still a schoolboy. He was the joint-top on the appearances list, having played twenty-two games in the following season of 2011-12. He was also the regular penalty-taker, and four of his five goals came from the penalty spot. In his first season with the Chelsea Reserves he made his debut in the 1-1 home draw with Blackburn Rovers on 30th August 201, before being replaced by Adam Nditi after sixty-one minutes and went on to come on three times as a substitute as he replaced Amin Affane at half-time in a 0-2 home loss to Arsenal on 5th March 2012, replaced Billy Clifford in the final minute of a 2-3 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers on 3rd April 2012 and replaced the same player on the hour mark in a 1-4 home defeat at the hands of Manchester United on 23rd April 2012. He also sat twice unused on the bench in a 3-3 draw at Norwich City on 24th January 2012 and at Swansea City in a 2-2 draw on 28th March 2012. It was in that 2011-12 season that he gained three England Under-Seventeen caps at the Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in a series of friendlies which saw him replaced Austin Lipman after fifty-three minutes on 26th November 2011, as England defeated Latvia Under-Seventeens 4-0. Two days later he gained a second cap as he again replaced Austin Lipman, after sixty-two minutes, as England defeated the host nation 2-0. His third cap came three days later, on 31st October 2011, when he played a full game as the Netherlands Under-Seventeens were beaten 1-0. He signed a professional contact in July 2012. The 2012-13 season was one to remember, with a host of appearances under his belt and captaincy responsibilities coming his way. An ever-present in both the NextGen Series and FA Youth Cup campaigns, Baker chipped in with vital goals from midfield, including two in the 4-3 NextGen semi-final win over Arsenal in Italy, and although Chelsea ended up losing the final to Aston Villa, the European competition finished on a positive personal note for the midfielder as he was named player of the tournament. In the F.A. Youth Cup he captained and played full games in the final three games as on 19th April 2013 Liverpool were beaten in the second leg of the semi-final, while ten days later Norwich scored the only goal at Carrow Road and then on 13th May 2013 went to Stamford Bridge and won by the odd goal in five to leave Chelsea 2-4 in arrears on aggregate. In the Chelsea Under Twenty-Ones he started eleven games and only failed to finish two, the first, on 17th August 2012, when he gave way to Alex Kiwomya with just nine minutes left on the clock in a 0-0 home draw with Manchester City and on 24th September 2012 in a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace as he was replaced by Adam Nditi after seventy-nine minutes. He got one from the penalty spot to make the score 3-3 after sixty-six minutes, which was how it ended at Liverpool on 18th November 2012 and finally he made the score 2-0 at Middlesbrough in the thirty-eighth minute on 3rd December 2012 ib a game they won 3-2. He also was just two minutes from completing all his five starting games in the Premier League Qualifications group 1, but was sent off with two minutes remaining in the 0-1 loss at Fulham on 1st March 2013 and also scored twice from the spot with the second goal in the seventy-first minute of a 2-0 home win over Fulham on 10th January 2013 and made the score 2-1 in the fifty-second minute of a 3-2 home win over Middlesbrough on 25th January 2013. At Under-Twenty-One and Under-Nineteen level he had a fine season, impressing to such an extent that he was named Chelsea Young Player of the Year 2013-14 and also won the club’s Goal of the Season, voted for by supporters, for a back-heel strike in an Under-Twenty-One match away against Arsenal at the Emirates on 22nd April 2014.
