Davie started with St Bernard's and progressed to St Johnstone and then Hibernian before going south to First Division Arsenal in the 1934-35 season. He did not make the first team at Highbury and played most of his football with Non-League Margate, who were the Arsenal Nursery team of the time and featured many of the young rising future stars. He was a prolific scorer in the 1935-36 season, which saw Margate win the Southern League Central Section and Eastern Section titles as well as the Kent Senior Cup and the Kent Senior Shield, as he scored thirty-six goals after playing from November 1935. He joined Third Division (South) side Brighton and Hove Albion in May 1936. He played eighty-nine League games in which he scored thirty-nine goals and he scored another eight goals in six F.A. Cup ties before World War Two brought the Football League fixtures to an end. He also scored twice in two games in the aborted 1939-40 Football League season. During the War he guested with Leeds United playing the last five games of the 1943-44 Football League Northern Section (Second Championship). He scored twice on debut in a 3-1 win at Chesterfield and finished his stint with four goals to his credit. He saw service with many teams in WW2, playing for Brighton and scoring twenty-four goals in thirty-four games in 1939-40, two goals in six games in 1940-41, twenty-seven goals in twenty-six games in 1941-42, five goals in eight games in 1942-43, two goals in two games in 1943-44 and four goals in ten games in 1945-46. He also scored ten goals in the F.A. Cup for Brighton in 1945-46. 1940-41 saw him play twice for Brentford, once for Clapton Orient and three times for Reading, all without scoring, but he got one goal in four games for Queens Park Rangers in the League and three goals in three games in the London Cup. He also scored once in two London Cup games for Brentford in that season. 1941-42 saw him score once in his only appearance for Reading and three goals in two games for Queens Park Rangers. 1942-43 saw him play once each for Crystal Palace and Fulham without scoring and scored twice in two games for both Millwall and Southampton. In 1943-44 he scored five times in seven games for Aldershot, once in four games for Charlton Athletic and four times in seven games for Southampton. In 1944-45 he played once for Aldershot without scoring. He also netted ten goals in fourteen games for Chesterfield and repeated the feat in the following season of 1945-46. He scored once in his only game for Mansfield Town, failed to score in his only game for Aldershot, netted twice in seven appearances for Nottingham Forest and six in thirteen games for Notts County in the 1944-45 season. 1945-46 saw him score five goals in eight games for Sunderland and once in his only game for Manchester United. He returned to Brighton after the War but did not play any games for them in the Football League, but managed to score ten goals in just eight F.A. Cup games before going into Non-League football with Stockton. He was soon back in the Football League with Second Division Barnsley but failed to score in six League games and played out his football career with Non-League Kidderminster Harriers and Shrewsbury Town. He died in Shrewsbury in June 1994.
