Maddison who played his football career as a Winger started with his local club Bentley
Colliery and then moved to Cementation. He was associated with Bishop Auckland and during the
Second World War he played one game as a guest for Leeds United. The game was at Left Half in
the 1941-42 Football League Northern Section (First Championship) at Roker Park when United
were beaten by Sunderland 1-6. He joined Third Division North York City in 1945. He made a
scoring debut for York on 24th November 1945 when York won the First Round F.A, Cup 2nd Leg
against Halifax Town by 4-2 at Bootham Crescent. He returned to Bentley Colliery but in
January 1946 he joined Third Division North Doncaster Rovers. In his first full season for
them he played the whole forty-two League games and contributed seventeen goals as Rovers
broke many records to become runaway Champions of the Third Division North in the 1946-47
season. While at Belle Vue he played sixty-one League games and scored nineteen goals
together with one goal in four F.A. Cup ties in his two seasons there. He joined Third
Division North side Stockport County in May 1948 but after five League and one F.A.Cup game
he left for Third Division North team Southport in February 1949. He stayed for two seasons,
making thirty-four League appearances and scoring four goals as well as one game in the F.A.
Cup. He then played in Non-League football for Goole Town and his first team Bentley Colliery.
He died in 1994.
