Little is known about Arthur Murgatroyd, other than he came from Whitkirk. It is believed
that he was on the books of Leeds United during the Second World War. He first played for
Leeds in the final three games of the 1939-40 Regional League North-East Division making his
debut on 25th May 1940 at Right Back in a 2-3 defeat by Halifax Town at The Shay and then
played at Left Back in the other two games. He played three more games for United and they
came at Left Back in the first three games of the 1941-42 Football League Northern Section
(First Championship). It is not thought that Murgatroyd played professionally in the Football
League.
