Little is known about Septimus Spike. He is thought to have been on the books of Newcastle United during the Second World War, and quite possibly played the his first game as Leeds were a man short on a visit to Newcastle. He played one game for Leeds United in the 1940-41 North Regional League. He played at Left Back on 3rd May 1941 in a 2-3 defeat by Newcastle United at Gallowgate. He also played five consecutive games for Leeds in the 1941-42 Football League Northern Section First Championship. He was at Left Back for the first of those games as United won 2-1 over Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park and then at Right Back for the remaining four as United lost 2-4 at St James’ Park and then won 5-2 at Elland Road in back-to-back games before beating Bradford City 4-2 at home and then losing the reverse fixture at Valley Parade by 0-5. He also played three games for Newcastle United in the 1941-42 season. It is not thought that Spike played professionally in the Football League.
