Stuart was signed from Dundee in July 1920 for United’s first campaign in the Football League. He played in both FA Cup preliminary ties that season when United fielded understrength teams as the games were played at the same time as the first team was fulfilling Football League commitments at Leicester City and Blackpool respectively. He made his sole League appearance at left half on the same day as Ernie Hart made his debut at centre-half, at home to Stockport County on 19th February 1921. He died in Dundee in 1989.
