Williamson started in the North East with Annfield Plain Celtic, before joining First Division Aston Villa in 1911. He did not make the first team at Villa Park and drifted into Non-League football with Stourbridge and Gainsborough Trinity. He made a return to League football when he joined Sunderland in 1914 and made five League appearances before World War One caused a suspension of Football League fixtures. He made one appearance for Leeds City as a guest in the Midland Section Subsidiary Tournament at home to Huddersfield Town in April 1916. It was his only appearance for Leeds City and he did not play professionally after that.
